Underpinning London & Essex

Underpinning

There are several reasons why underpinning might be necessary and therefore different approaches to the methods used. It involves placing a new foundation underneath an existing foundation to give more support or shore up failing foundations.

We encounter this where sinking and subsidence has occurred due to ground movement which can be due to changes in soil conditions or local excavations and the solution demands additional support. Often, we are dealing with restricted access and need to minimise vibrations to ensure we don’t make the situation worse.

Experienced Team

Underpinning is the process of strengthening the foundation of an existing building or other structure. Underpinning typically involves extending the foundation depth or distributing the load across a greater area. Underpinning is a major repair project and in order to choose the correct method, it is necessary to understand the current situation and problems concerning the entire foundation. Visit our Home Owners area to learn how we can provide an equivalent to Underpinning in only one day!

Why is Underpinning Necessary?

There are variety of reasons why underpinning might need to be carried out. These are usually related to subsidence issues. Some examples of why underpinning might be necessary are:

  • A change in soil conditions under the foundation
  • Soil characteristics were not properly taken into account during the design phase
  • The original foundation is no longer suitable/strong enough
  • The construction/repair/excavation of neighbouring structures endangers the current foundations
  • Additional floors are to be constructed underground

Piling

With years of experience, we are ready for ANY type piling work.  We do Mini Piling, CFA Piling, Secant WallOpen Bore PilingContiguous Bored PilePile Design, and King Post.

RC Slabs

Where we are using reinforced concrete for construction, we can use slabs as alternative foundation to ground beams. Being narrower, they offer a solution where depth might be an issue.

Ground Beams

Excellent choice of foundation for projects that cannot have traditional trench footings, such as ground conditions or due to services running through the foundation footprint.
