Secant Piled Walls

If a watertight wall is needed, for example under the water table, then we would use a secant wall. Here the piling has each pile cut into the previously installed pile, thereby creating a seal between the units.

We start off by installing a guide wall made up of pile formers surrounded by concrete to keep the auger in place while drilling. This result in having a hard and soft pile, hard being the pile that contains the reinforced cage and normally of a greater depth.

We drill the hard piles after installing the soft piles either side resulting in the hard pile being cut into the soft either side and creating a permanent seal.

This method is generally used in basement construction.
